The Writ
A multimedia project investigating the affordable housing crisis in the District of Columbia
Your Subtitle text
More than 31,000 District of Columbia residents are on the D.C. Housing Authorities wait list for affordable housing.

The federal government defines "affordable housing" as a monthly rent payment or mortgage payment equal to 30% (or less) of your monthly income.

The average District of Columbia resident living on social benefits is entitled to $674 a month. For them "affordable" means finding housing for $202 (or less) a month.

This film documents the lives of two D.C. residents and their struggles to keep their homes.
